The Coast played Cromer today at the Coast. This was to be a pivotal day in our Division as Cromer, Woolooware and The Coast entered the round on equal position.
Following words of advice from Manager Kevin Lum the Coast team were well prepared, knowing what was at stake. The weather was holding off with clouds thunder and some lightening coming later in the afternoon. The weather did not stop any of the play.
The great news is that The Coast beat Cromer 3 and half to 2 and a half.
Numbers 5 and 6 for the Coast were Kyle Gordon and Riley Mungovan. Kyle lost to a young boy 5 and 2 ( Josh) off the same handicap as Kyle. It was hard to believe that the boy from Woolooware was a 24 marker, his demeanor and accuracy were very much unwavering. Kyle got behind early, fought back but in the end lost to someone having the game of his life. Riley Mungovan ensured the Coast had a victory when he got to the 18th he was the last player on the course, one down and he won the last hole to have a half. I am not sure what is going through Riley’s head at times but he definitely shows a calmness, more calmness than his mother who is closely watching on.
Numbers 3 and 4 for the Coast also fought hard. Arnie Singh is the smallest of all the Coast players, but don’t let his size deceive you, as Arnie came out on top 5 and 3. I am sure Arnie’s advantage is that the opposition look at his statue and do not realize how annoyingly accurate he is. His chipping and putting would be the envy of many of the Coast GC members. Cullen Lum gave it his all, he was dormy 4 only to lose at the 17th. Cullen has the power game and each time has been unlucky to lose.
The Coast numbers 1 and 2 continued on their winning ways. Charlie Farr Jones winning 4 and 2 whilst team Captain Will Cross won 5 and 4. Both these boys have a will to win and are future Coast A graders. Charlie won birdiing the 16th easily, a drive down the hill a simple chip and one putt. I have watched Will over the last 2 weeks and his chipping is exquisite.
Well done to the boys today however next week will be the big test. The Coast play in the last round Woolooware at Woolooware and they had a landslide victory today over Roseville 6 to nil.
I would like to give special thanks today to the following for their support on what is a very big day at the Coast for Junior Golf.
- Kevin Lum for his management of the team. Kevin had to leave and come back today as his other 14yo son is in the Australian Ballet Academy and was dancing at the Seymour Centre, in what is an amazing achievement.
- Club Captain Tony de Kievit for starting all players and marshalling the course for all 6 teams throughout the afternoon.
- Steve Green, out on the course providing wonderful support for the team as only he can.
- Ben and Doran for turning up and supporting their team mates.
- Parents Scott, Greg, Anna, Trish, Peter, Amrish and Shaun. I know all the parents enjoy the event and provide wonderful if not sometimes frustrated support. Luckily they can all go home and take their blood pressure tablets.
- Nina, Jo and Luke supplying refreshments
- Ibo and Teagan for the food
Cheers

Encourage Shield – Round Three
On Sunday 27 October the Coast Encourage Shield team travelled out to the picturesque Roseville Golf Club to take on St Michael’s. Against the strongest team in the division the Coast boys had to change their approach from earlier weeks (when they were giving away numerous shots) to each playing against golfers with handicaps around half of their own. The Coast boys were not intimidated by the task and in a pulsating match fought back from initially being down 5-1, to pushing for victory, before grabbing a draw 3-3 – which was a fair result with all matches being played in a friendly but very competitive nature. The Boys should be commended for their character and the support they showed each other taking on competitors with much lower handicaps and for fighting together until the end with all matches changing in balance throughout the day.
Ben Spicer Marks & Doran Lee were the 1st group off and both went behind early by 3 & 4 shots after nervous starts. However they should be very proud as to how they each fought back to be almost level after 9 but unfortunately the longer holes on the back 9 proved too much for them against their very consistent opponents eventually losing 4 & 2 and 5 & 4 respectively.
In an enthralling battle between two very talented 11 year olds Arnav Singh showed great maturity to come back from being behind early to then dominate his opponent with his accuracy and consistency winning 5 & 4. Cullen Lum had the most see-sawing battle of the day with the lead changing 4 times over the initial 14 holes with each player winning holes with great Pars (and even Bridies) before Cullen was beaten on the 17th 2 & 1 by another birdie.
That left it down to the last group and the “Dynamic Duo” of Charlie Farr-Jones and Will Cross who had a great battle with their highly fancied low handicap opponents (off 4 & 8 respectively). Charlie started well and then managed to hold a slim lead throughout the round eventually winning 3 & 2. Will’s match swung back and forth in an absorbing battle with Will sinking a putt on the 16th in front of the entire team to win his match and Draw the contest 3-3. It is great to see the “Dynamic Duo” in action as they play so well together knowing instinctively when and how to focus or relax each other (normally with a cutting jibe!)
Great support again from parents and the presence of Trevor Jay & Steve Green is always great for the boys’ confidence and focus. The result sees the team remain undefeated and on top of the Division with a crucial match against joint leaders Cromer this week at The Coast.

Encourage Shield – Round Two
The Coast Encourage Shield Team travelled out to the beautiful but challenging Cromer Golf Club on Sunday 20 October with the 7:00am commencement time being the first challenge for both parents and players! In perfect conditions and despite again giving away shots in all but one match the boys beat a strong Kogarah team 5 – 1.
This week we welcomed the return of our No. 1 and most experienced player Charlie Farr-Jones. Charlie and Will Cross formed a strong “deadly duo” at No. 1 & 2 and despite a few challenging holes at the beginning had the measure of their opponents winning comfortably 5 & 3 and 6 & 4 respectively.
Cullen Lum & Kyle Gordon teamed up at No. 3 & 4 and again worked & supported each other well throughout the day. After a nervous start last week in his debut Kyle started confidently this week and was always in control winning 5 & 4 despite giving away 14 shots. Cullen battled with a very strong & consistent Kogarah Girl and unfortunately could not bridge the 9 shots he had to give away eventually losing 5 & 4.
Riley Mungovan again played a solid round, which included a memorable birdie, demonstrating maturity beyond his years and led his opponent when the match was awarded to him on the 12th.. Drew Kelso debuted this week and showed great composure in a tight see-sawing match eventually winning the match on the 18th whilst dodging swooping magpies on his final putts. It was great to see all the boys supporting and encouraging Drew from the warm up until his hard fought win on the 18th in front of cheering parents & teammates.
The Boys really appreciated the support of all the parents that followed them around as well as Arnie Singh & Greeny (with his constant chant – “C’mon boys you’re going to have to get a move on!”). The Boys are really bonding well together and are not only enjoying their golf but thriving from being part of a supportive and tight knit team. Everyone is looking forward to the big grudge match against St Michael’s next week at Roseville and they will meet them head on as a team strengthened by the experience gained from 2 confidence building wins.

Encourage Shield – Round One
The Coast Encourage Shield team started the competition with a convincing 5-1 win over Roseville at Kogarah Golf Course on Sunday 13 October. The Coast team had to work hard all day to maintain their focus as they gave away an average 12 shots in the matchplay format.
Will Cross captained the team at Number 1 and had a running battle all day with the Roseville Captain giving him 12 shots. Will showed great strength fighting back from behind a number of times winning on the 17th 2 & 1. Arnav Singh played at Number 2 and at the age of 11 displayed great composure leading his opponent all day and despite giving away 16 shots he won comfortably 6 & 5. Cullen Lum also gave away 16 shots but was always in control not losing a hole and was the first to finish winning 8 & 7. Kyle Gordon playing in his first ever match also had the daunting task of giving his opponent 15 shots. Despite a nervous start being 3 down after 4 he showed great character in turning things around winning 7 holes in a row to eventually win 6 & 5. Ben Spicer Marks also playing in his first match did extremely well working hard all day in a great battle. However having to give his opponent 9 shots eventually took its toll and unfortunately he went down swinging 5 & 4 . Riley Mungovan also gave his opponent 9 shots and showed great resilience and focus all day in a see-sawing contest which he won the match on the 18th in front of all his teammates. It was also great to see the support of non-playing teammates Drew Kelso, Lachlan Leitch & the evergreen “Greeny” and the many parents who walked the fairways helping to locate wayward balls!
The reasonably inexperienced team will only get better from the match and it was great to see team mates actively supporting each other throughout their matches and then coming together at the end to bring home the final groups to victory. The team were proud to represent The Coast and the Club would be proud of how they carried themselves individually and as a team!

THE COAST GOLF CLUB WINS GOLF NSW ‘T L WARREN TROPHY’
The 2019 T L Warren Trophy is a match-play event conducted by Golf NSW for ‘B Grade’ Competition Golfers and is open to all Sydney Metropolitan Golf Clubs from as far south as Picton, west to Springwood and north to Palm Beach.
From July to September some 40 x Clubs took part in six preliminary rounds across 10 Divisions, with each preliminary round consisting of 3 x Four Ball Matches.
Although The Coast won 4 of their 6 preliminary rounds to take out their Division, in order to progress the team was forced to firstly overcome an Elimination Final where they defeated Wallacia GC 2 matches to 1 at Riverside Oaks to then qualify for the Finals Series.
Seeded number 8 for the Finals Series, The Coast was matched against number 1 seed Cumberland GC in the Quarter Final which was held at Eastlake, once again The Coast was too strong completing a 2 matches to 1 victory.
The Semi Final was held back at Riverside Oaks against the number 5 seeded Antill Park GC with the number 2 & 3 matches resulting in wins for The Coast whilst the number 1 team was called off the course after leading 2 up on the 16th hole, with that match being declared a draw, resulting in a 2.5 Matches to 0.5 victory and progression to the Final.
The Final Match was a battle of the beaches with The Coast GC, Little Bay facing off against the number 3 seed Bondi GC, at Cumberland Country Club on Sunday 29 September.
The number 3’s of Andrew King & Ken Hindle were first to tee off however Bondi exploded out of the blocks leading 3 up after 3 holes. The number 1’s Steve Gaynor & Mark Millican & number 2’s Warren Carr & Karl Hartmann (C) matches remained very tight with neither team managing to maintain any ascendency.
After completing the first nine holes, the number 3’s had fought back strongly and all three Matches went out Square for the remaining nine holes.
With all three matches now evenly balanced, we knew we were in for a tremendous battle and the see-sawing scores just kept coming.
After 17 holes, the first result was in, and unfortunately our number 3 team of Andrew King & Ken Hindle were outplayed on the day with Bondi GC going up 1 x Match to nil, with a 2&1 win.
Meanwhile, playing at Number 1 Steve Gaynor & Mark Millican maintained the consistency and dominance which they produced throughout the competition and changed things up a gear by winning on the 16th providing The Coast with a 3&2 win to now equal Bondi for the Trophy, 1 x Match a piece.
Everything then came down to the Number 2 pairing of Warren Carr & Team Captain Karl Hartmann who were in a real battle with the match continually see-sawing resulting in both teams being Square after 17 holes.
The par 5, 18th was an absolute heart-stopper, after 2 strokes Bondi were in the box seat with both players positioned in the centre of the fairway. Karl was on the adjacent fairway left, completely blocked by trees and Warren was on an adjacent tee box on the right, also blocked out by trees. At this point the pressure on both teams was immense and the spectators were not much better. Karl was next to hit, from about 165 metres out he flew the trees providing a great shot landing just off the right rear edge of the green for 3. Both Bondi players were up next and the pressure was certainly high which unfortunately led to a few costly errors in getting to the green. Adding to the pressure, Warren’s fourth shot into the green was a tremendous flop shot, up and over the trees leaving a fourteen footer for Par. With both Karl & Warren on the green and chances to make putts for the win. Warren had first opportunity, sinking the putt for bogey resulting in an exciting finale and victory after 10 consecutive Sundays of competition with The Coast Golf Club defeating Bondi GC and winning the 2019 TL Warren Trophy 2 Matches to 1.
Thanks to all our caddies and supporters and congratulations to The Coast Golf Club Team;
Karl Hartmann (Captain), Steve Gaynor, Mark Millican, Warren Carr, Andrew King, Dominic Romeo, Ken Hindle, Tony Macpherson, Michael White (Assistant Manager).
Special thanks to Cumberland Country Club for hosting the TL Warren Trophy Final and the team of volunteers from Golf NSW for officiating on the day.

We were greeted to a beautiful warm sunny day. With the local roos all bouncing across the greens and fairways. Something you don’t get at The Coast….
Team 3 – Andrew King & Kenny Hindle.
The newly formed married couple … Carried on with there unusual way of team encouragement ! There different approach to camaraderie seems to work!!
A solid unwavering determination, gave the lads a memorable victory.
Belief is a strong attribute to have in match play!
Great performance.
Winning 3 & 2
Team 2 – Warren Carr & Karl Hartmann.
So pleased for these lads. They are peaking at the right time!
A very convincing win ! There were some special golf shots played by both players, that put them in total control, the opposition had no answer.
Another great performance.
Winning 5 & 4
Team 1- Steve Gaynor & Mark Millican
The boys were in battle all day. 1up – 1 down – square, just a see sawing game!
True to form the lads were 1up playing into the 14th. when they were called off the course as the 2s & 3s had already determined the win.
Great effort by the big fella getting out of his sick bed….(beware the sick golfer)
Ended Square.

A beautiful sunny day, 25c with a light breeze – Perfect conditions.
Team 3 – Andrew King & Kenny Hindle.
They hung in for most of the game, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
A tough loss for the lads. But I’m sure they will bounce back stronger and more determined next week!
Chin up!
Losing 3 & 2
Team 2 – Warren Carr & Karl Hartman.
We knew this would happen, it was only a matter of time. So pleased for the pair of them.
A real confidence booster ! The opposition were on the back foot from the off. The boys never gave them a sniff.
6 up with 6 to play, You embrace those days when they come around !
Strong performance, Great to see!!
Winning 5 & 3
Team 1- Steve Gaynor & Mark Millican
This was a grind, the boys never got too far infront. And the game was always in the balance .
But a quality par on 17, put them 1up playing 18. One player from each team went OB off the tee….
What a nail biter.. A half was all we needed. Not the most convincing lag i have ever seen.
But hats off to the big fella ! Job done !!
Great result – Winning 1 up

Sunday 08/9/19 – Warren Elimination Final at Riverside Oaks
On Sunday we ventured out to Riverside Oaks to play Wallacia in the Elimination Round of the Warren Shield. Due to extremely high winds on Friday and Saturday there were power issued to the resort which impacted on the availability of carts for players, but we were undeterred. There was also a number of trees that had been blown over that were causing issues on the course proper.
Team 3 – Andy King and Ken Hindle
This team has formed an unusual bond and they feed off each other’s game.
In a see sawing match that saw Wallacia up early the boys fought back to be 1 up at the turn.
On the back nine the boys combined extremely well taking a 3 up with 3 to play, until the 16th where two great shots left the team with 3 putts for a win, so Wallacia conceded with the result a 4/2 win.
Team 2 – Karl Hartman and Warren Carr
These two lads came up against a strong Wallacia pairing and were very unlucky with their putts not dropping whist their opposition sank theirs.
They fought hard but were unlucky and lost 4/3
Team 1 – Steve Gaynor and Mark Millican
As usual these two lads played a hard game with their opposition taking an early with the team fighting back from 2 down after 4, before winning three in a row and eventually turning 1 up. On the back nine they went back to square before winning holes 15 and 16 and squaring the 17th to hold winners 2/1.
This week sees us playing the number 1 seeds from Cumberland at Eastlakes.
We would like to thank all of our supporters that came out an supported the team
Andy King
Gibson Trophy – Round 6
This week we journeyed out to Campbelltown for a crucial last round match, if we could come home victorious we would be through to the Qualifying rounds.
First off was Joe Bakalich and Geoff Warleigh the boys were 1 up after 4 holes and things were tight, after 9 holes they were 2 up and playing strong but then the home town advantage came into play and after 14 holes they were 1 down and although they tried hard they just couldn’t get over the top of them and went down 3 n 2.
Second off was Mark Green & Duncan James. They jumped out of the blocks and lead 2up after 4 holes and keep in control leading 4 up after 9 finally putting the opposition away 5 n 4. Well done! Duncan was so keen to play he drove back from the snow the morning off the game so he could. Fantastic commitment to the team thank you.
The final group saw us welcome back Vince Johnson from a 2 week break and Jason D’Cruz . It was a tight struggle and they were 1 down after 4 and the same after 9 holes. The boys were 2 down with 3 to play and they fought hard and on 16 Vince sunk a nice putt to score win, on to 17 with a chance albeit slim. The 17th is a 181m par 3 with water in front and all down the left side our tees shots weren’t good and the opposition took the opportunity and won the hole so we went down 2 n 1.
Overall we lost 2 to 1 and that ended our season.
Thank You to all the players for their commitment and effort it was an enjoyable year and was great to meet all of you.
Thanks to the club and everyone who helped by caddying supporting etc.
Congratulations to the Warrens who have made it through to the elimination final this week

We traveled away to Campbelltown GC on Saturday 31st of August 2019.
A beautiful sunny Saturday, what more does a golfer want to start his day!
A little bit of a breeze, nothing to worry The Coast lads.
Team 3 – Andrew King & Kenny Hindle.
They said it wouldn’t work, 2 Alfa males together… What a combination ! Bucket loads of confidence! Just refused to get beat!
The key is never let the opposition feel like they are in the game. A very gritty performance on an unfamiliar layout.
Great win away! Well done.
Winning 2up
Team 2 – Mark Millican & Steve Gaynor.
Back together, after there brief separation… The lads got on with where they left off . In control for most of the match. But some uncharacteristic putting.
Gave the opposition a few openings. The match went to the final hole .But it just wasn’t to be.
Losing 1 down
Team 1- Warren Carr & Karl Hartman.
This match became a toe to toe fight for a full 18 holes.
Very few shots were dropped in this tight tussle. The lads made a real game of it.
Very determined effort, the home advantage probably just got Campbelltown over the line.
A real gutsy performance.
losing 2 down
Only 2 losses this year. All the players involved, Should be proud they finished top, Of a very competitive division.
Right lads off to Riverside Oaks for the elimination final.
We are where we all wanted to be, in the playoffs!
You are great bunch of lads, Who can keep this run going.
Play well on Sunday I’m sure you will get the job done against Wallacia GC.

We travelled away to Woollahra GC on Sunday 25th of August 2019.
On arrival we were greeted to warm temperatures and bright sunshine .
Unfortunately the temperature dropped and the wind started to gust, Just at tee off.
Team 3 – Kenny Hindle & Tony Macpherson.
They just seemed to be on the back foot from the start. The chances were there to be taken … But the putts didn’t drop.
Adjusting to different golf courses is a challenge, especially ones with such slick greens.
The home side just controlled the match better.
Losing 3/2
Team 2 – Karl Hartmann & Andrew King.
A disappointing result for the lads. Sometimes you just can’t get in the game…
We will dust ourselves off and go again this weekend.
Losing 7/5
Team 1- Warren Carr & Steve Gaynor.
What a great start! 4up after 4… The opposition didn’t know what had hit them!
Calm & controlled, never gave an inch. Great away win!
Winning 5&4
First loss of the year. But we are still on top of the division 8.
The final game is on this Saturday against Campbeltown @ Campbelltown.
We are in great position. The points are on the board, We are not chasing, they are chasing us….

Gibson Trophy – Round 5
After a recording a solid win last week to push the team to outright first, the Gibson team faced a rematch with Woollahra away. A win secured a finals spot but as has been the case all year, away wins had proven to be tough to achieve and the team knew this would be the case again.
First off was the family pairing of Mark Green and Duncan James. After going down last week at home the boys were pumped for retribution. However, maybe they started a little too pumped and were quickly in a battle. At the turn the boys were 3 down, but they showed their fighting spirit to level the match by the 13th. We halved the 14th but the boys went 1 down on the 15th. They had an opportunity to get it back on 16th but unfortunately missed out on the greens to tee off 17, 1 down. After the tee shots everyone was in play, all be it not in perfect positions, however an amazing 2nd from the rough with a hybrid saw the oppo land the green. Some shaved putts from our boys gave Woollahra an opportunity to par and win the match which was taken. The boys went down 2 & 1 but played some fantastic golf. As mentioned, we were 3 down at the turn but only 4 over so the boys can keep their heads high and know it just wasn’t their day.
Second off was Joe Bakalich and Geoff Warleigh. The boys fought throughout but sometimes, it just isn’t your day and you have to take your hat off to the opposition. Today was this day for the for our guys, going down 6 & 5.
The final group saw Jason D’Cruz teeing it up with new boy Paul Dunn. These guys combined extremely well and were in total control throughout the day. They turned 2 UP but just could shake Woollahra despite not dropping holes. A couple of missed putts kept the oppo in the match but the boys were in total control and eventually rounded out the win 3 & 1 on the 17th. An away win and great result which ultimately ensured we maintained our position at the top of the ladder, albeit tied.
So we go into the final round all tied up on points, individual match points, points and points within matches played with Woollahra. It is a last week shoot out with both teams playing away looking for a place in the finals. To date, no team has won away from home so our destiny is in our own hands on Saturday at Campbelltown.
Thanks again to all the supporters and a special mention to Glenn Grainger for once again coming out and caddying for the team. Both the Gibson and Warren teams could be finals bound if we deliver on Saturday so best of luck to both sides.

The winter north east winds finally came and gave the traveling team a taste of what The Coast is about!
Team 3 – Andrew King & Dominic Romeo
Onward and upwards. These pair of lads seem to be on such a roll, the only thing that will halt there unbeaten run…
Is a planned holiday to Europe.
They were 3up after 4holes and they just did, what they do best. Never gave the opposition, a remote sniff of a chance!
Another dominating performance.
Great to see!
winning 6/4
Team 2 – Karl Hartman & Warren Carr.
A real tight tussle, The lads found themselve’s playing against a slow and somewhat frustrating opposition.
And the strong gusting winds never helped the situation.
No excuses, it just wasn’t there day.
Losing 3/1
Team 1- Mark Millican & Steve Gaynor.
These lads have defiantly got there ying & yang tuned in!
Quietly confident, easy going. But saying that… the passion to win, never over rides there intent.
A solid convincing win! Top job !

Gibson Trophy Report – Round 4
Round 4 saw us host equal competition leaders Woollahra at home. The Sun was shinning but the N Easter was blowing and got stronger as the day went on, but that didn’t stop the whales puting on a show.
First off was Mark Green & Duncan James. Duncan was fresh from a week off and the game was tight early but the boys fell behind and never recovered losing 5 n 4
Second off was Joe Bakalich and Geoff Warleigh The boys played good golf early but couldn’t quite shake the opposition whose putting keep them in the game but the boys took their opportunities and lead after 8 holes 2up and as the wind strengthened on the back 9 they were never in doubt winning 5 n 4.
The final pairing were Jason D’cruz and Phil Botha. This was Phil’s 1st game in the Team and him and Jason combined well taking the lead early and never looked liked being headed. Jason’s 3 shot into 6 was exceptional and he finished it off by sinking an 8 foot putt for a birdie putting them 5 up after 6. The opposition fought hard but we’re no match for the boys with us winning 6 n 5. A great effort.
This gave The Coast a 2 n 1 victory to put us on top of our group.
Congratulations team a great win.
That was our last home game and next week were are at Woolahra for the return game and then Cambelltown.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the:

We traveled to Moore Park GC on Sunday 11th of August 2019.
The winter winds and freezing temperatures made for a very challenging day ahead.
Team 3 – Andrew King & Dominic Romeo
This combination, has such belief and trust in each others game.
They are always in the fight.
With that attitude you will always be in the game!
All square on the 18th tee, The boys are now at the pointy end.
It took a near perfect 200m 2nd shot into the green to break the opposition
With a slick downhill putt, which was executed perfectly.
Job done !! Very exciting!!
winning 1up
Team 2 – Mark Millican & Steve Gaynor
Very impressive from the get go. Never flustered, always in control.
It wasn’t could they get it done, it was more by how many.
Winning away from home is always a great achievement. But doing it in such a dominating way, is extra special for the players confidence.
A memorable victory!
winning 6/5
Team 1- Karl Hartman & Kenny Hindle.
Somedays it just doesn’t happen …. You try, you try again .
But that’s the game. The Moore park boys were more constant around the greens. Which became the difference.
A tough defeat to take. We are a team and the match result is what counts.
Losing 5&4

Gibson Trophy – Round 3
The season rolled on with the team entering our first away game at Moore Park full of confidence thanks to our undefeated start to the season. Getting a win away is key to making the finals and the team were keen to achieve this on our first crack.
First off was a new pairing of Mark Green and Geoff Warleigh. This was a tight battle from the outset with very little movement in the lead. The boys controlled from tee to green however the putting of the opposition can only be described as extraordinary. Finally, on the 13th, a putt was missed to put us back to square and the boys pounced to win hole after hole and take a sold 3 & 2 win
Second off was Joe Bakalich and Jason D’Cruz. Like the first pairing, this game was tight and with no team being able to break away. After 15 we were all square and the boys took the lead on the 16th. We had our opportunities on the 17th but unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalise. So, down the 18th we went. Both guys played this hole well and the support for the team and the Warrens was fantastic. But alas, it wasn’t our day with the opposition draining a very good putt to take the win 1 UP.
Like the two groups before, Doug Turnbull and Vince Johnson went out in the final pair and were in a tight tussle. At 14, we were all square but like our first pair, this time Moore Park were able to string some hole wins together and ultimately take the tie.
Although we went down 2-1 we showed a lot of spirit to fight. We had our opportunities to win this and although the team are disappointed, we will be better for the experience. Thanks to all that came out and supported, in particular our caddies, Anthony Ragusa and Glenn Grainger. Also, congrats to the Warrens side who continued their undefeated start to the season with a solid away win.
We have some new pairings this weekend and I know the boys are looking to get back to their winning ways at home against Woollahra.
Happy Golfing

Gibson Trophy Report – Round 2
Round 2 saw us welcome Moore Park to the Coast on a perfect day with Sunshine, a light Southerly and multiple whales splashing around.
First off was Mark Green & Duncan James. Full of confidence from their victory last week the boys were 3 up after 6 but stumbled and were all square after 9. They then found there groove on the back 9 and were victorious on the 15th 4 to 3. This pairing combine very well helped I am sure by being family.
Second off was Joe Bakalich and Jason D’cruz. We welcomed Jason for his 1st game in the Team. The game was close early but boys went 3 up on the 8th with a great chip in birdie by Jason and from then on were always in control, combining well winning on the 13th 6 & 5 with a solid par from Joey. This secured the tie for the Coast.
The final pairing were Doug Turnbull and Vince Johnson This game was tight with the boys 1 up after the 8th. They then took control and were 4 up after 11holes but Moore Park boys fought back and it was a tense struggle but the boys held there nerve and prevailed on the 17th with a 3 and 1 victory to give us a 3 nil win.
Congratulations team a great start to the season.
Congratulations to the Warrens Trophy side who also won 3 nil a great effort by all.
Finally, thank you to all the caddies, supporters and spotters who helped on the day.
Enjoy your Golf.

Warren Trophy Report – Round 1.
We hosted Campbelltown GC on Sunday 28th July 2019.
The away side couldn’t have been treated to a more perfect winters day.
Hardly any wind and a beautiful 22.C.
Team 3 – Andrew King & Dominic Romeo
We’re in a tight tussle for most of the there game.
But just proved to be to strong on the back 9, winning 3&2.
Team 2 – Steve Gaynor & Ken Hindle
Shot out of the blocks on the front 9.
And they never looked like they were under any threat from the opposition.
Dormie walking off the 11th…
What a great position to to be in, winning 5&4
Team 1 – Mark Millican & Warren Carr
Our lads found themselves in a tight battle with the match seesawing.
After fighting hard, unfortunately it wasn’t there day, with a 3&2 loss
Overall a good start to the competition, resulting in a 2-1 Home Win.
I would like to thank all the supporters and caddies who turned up on the day.

Gibson Trophy Report – Round 1
The Gibson team started the defence of our title in style with an emphatic 3-0 result at home against the team from Campbelltown. This is a new look team with only Doug returning in the quest for back to back titles. On face value this seems disappointing, but what is promising is it shows the benefit of this competition and how it helps to improve peoples golf game and shoot lower. Secondly, this changing of the guard will allow for many new players to experience team golf throughout the year with a strong squad of 9 players that will all tee it up throughout the season.
Our season started out with Mark Green and Duncan James leading us off. These boys were in control from the outset and never dropped behind on the scoreboard. Some rustiness allowed the competition to stay close however the boys held their nerve to get the first win of the day up on the 17th with a solid 2 & 1 win.
Second off was Joe Bakalich and Geoff Warleigh. As with the first pairing, the boys streaked out to a 3 shot lead. Similarly, some nervous moments occurred throughout the middle of the back 9 but the lads refocused to a delivered another 2 & 1 win and secured the tie for the Coast.
The final pairing put our experienced players Doug Turnbull and Vince Johnson up against their top pair. This game was tight with a lot of see-sawing throughout the back 9. The boys were forced to go up the 18th but with both hitting great tee shots and the opposition requiring to reload or go to the drop zone, Doug and Vince secured the whitewash with a 2UP win. Also congratulations to the Warrens Trophy side who similarly got their season off to a winning start.
A great start to the title defence with some good golf played by both sides and in great spirit. Thanks must go to the Campbelltown players as well for making this an enjoyable round for all. Our new players got a taste of team match play golf and I know they are all looking forward to the next hit out, this Sunday 4th at home.
Finally, thank you to all the supporters that came out and watched, spotted our caddied. It’s also great to see how many members of recent years teams came to support the new guard and push to continue or success in this competition.
Happy Golfing
