Round 1
A strong field of “senior golfers” played in the 1st round amongst the field with their mates. Rd 2 would be a seeded draw.
Another year and some new “seniors” join the Club’s ranks. New to the seniors event this year were Conrad Weber and Gary Kennedy who also joined the Masters Team this season. Conrad is well known around the club over a long period, a player with many wins and titles during his “junior” years at the club and elsewhere
As the normal Rd 1 condition, players play in their normal groups with top 8 on count back progressing to a block group on Day 2
Leading day 1 was Conrad Weber, 73, Merve Danne, 74 Gary Kennedy 79 and defending champion Oliver Young also 79. A score of 81 eventually got you a place in the 8 man final
Notable players who did not make top 8 were Mark Sheedy with a DQ after someone? hit his ball on 14, and some big numbers by others (I won’ name them)
Round 2
Top 8 players fronted for the second round of the Senior Championship, a sunny, but chilly morning, with the prospect of winds later. Boy, was the weatherman correct today (for a change) The back 9 was a true test of links (wind) golf….
Last group out were Conrad, Merv, Paul and Oliver
The “vibe” was that this was going to be a contest down to the wire.
Conrad turned in 40 with a bad run thru 6/7 and 8
Merv turned in 37 with a mix of birdies and bogies = on the front 9, to lead going up the back
Not the rain man, but the wind man came along and hit the field
In the end Conrad’s 3 over on the back for 40/37 = 77 got the title
Merv pushed on but the bogie train and a triple for 44/37 = 81 gave the trophy to Conrad 150 v 155
A presentation was held with members still in the club enjoying a drink, speeches and a few extra drinks to complete the day.
A new champion again this year in what appears a new challenge in the club – Senior Club Champion
