What is it when we run championship events at The Coast internally vs externally
Wind all weekend for the Foursomes event yet when others come here, we have calm conditions and lose any home town advantage!!
Anyhow…….
Round 1 Saturday
The course was in great condition, with plenty of rain in the two weeks prior with the course greening up well. A NE wind of 20-40kmh was there for the round.
The men teed off on the 1st in Rd 1 with a good field of 20 pairs participating. Many new teams / combos this year in both divisions.
After 18 holes a great scratch round of 68 by both Amanda White & Michael White and Jess Ryan & Prinya Kham was followed up by new pairing Nicole Heinrich & Michael Goetz 89. They played well considering the were in the same group as Captain No Fun (Tony)
The Nett teams also did well with day 1 leaders Robyn Sparling and Mark Millican (team PINK) nett 70.5 to new pairing Sandra Harvey & Danny Meyer 71.5
A couple of teams notched up a couple of 9s on the round.
Lots of discussion, tactics, drinking and eating after, including comment on a few “good” pin positions on the day.
Round 2 Sunday- Championship Day
As per Major Honour Board events conducted at The Coast, Round 2 was a seeded draw with the top 3 teams playing last.
Wind, what wind. Sunday was similar to Saturday with the later teams (better teams??) playing in the stronger wind coming home.
Field was same as Saturday with 20 pairs teeing up again, albeit in new order from Saturday.
Last group out were and Amanda White & Michael White, Jess Ryan & Prinya Kham, Kerri Blyth & Kevin Isch and Nicole Heinrich & Michael Goetz
With the reversal of tee honour (Men 1st tee Sat and Ladies 1st tee Sunday) lots of new shots were needed by all.
Best scratch score was a great 84 by Kerri Blyth & Kevin Isch after their 91 on Saturday. Close behind was Leanne Willaims and Gary Kennedy with an 85.
The nett event was again of interest with the great 85 by Leanne Willaims and Gary Kennedy converting into a 73 for the day, closely followed by the break out pairing of Kerri Blyth & Kevin Isch with a 73.5
Trophy Presentation was undertaken after the game with the 36 hole winners presented trophies by Captain Tony and then speeches
Club Champions
Winners Jess Ryan and Prinya Kham 86/87 173
Runner Up Kerri Blyth & Kevin Isch 91/84 175c/b
Nett Champions
Robyn Sparling & Mark Millican 24.5 70.5/ 74.5 145
Amanda White & Michael White 13.5 72.5 / 75.5 148
More discussion, tactics, drinking and eating after with some teams already working on ways to win in 2024.
Again, many thanks to Jordan and his team for presenting the course again in a good championship condition and DJ (Debra de Kievit) for her behind the scenes “bookwork” compiling the results.
Also, great to see some new faces (especially ladies) joining and playing this great event
See you all next year.
